Mountain Tents at Hajj in Mecca: Pop-Up City. (Concept)

Designed for quick and simple erection, the Mountain Tent is a non permanent structure for multi purpose usage. It can be used at Hajj time and removed and stored after. It leaves almost no traces in the natural landscape. Based upon the traditional Hajj tent of 4m x 4m. the light self-supporting framework with telescopic legs for a multi-level type of tent, which could have been built on the Muna slopes up to a 35° gradient, is a The photo shows prototypes, built in 1981.

Upon identifying the modern crisis during Hajj in Saudi Arabia, solutions were sought to address the lack of accommodation in Muna and the enormous increases of pilgrims. A need arose the concept of the Mountain Tent whose design and program have achieved efficiency and feasibility while maintaining the natural landscape.
